Hikari diets are developed specifically to meet the nutritional needs of the fish they are meant to feed. Pelleted food by design is more compacted, providing more nutrition in the same amount of space, therefore care should be taken when comparing pricing on flake food versus pelleted food. In most cases, your best value is a pelleted food. Additionally, pelleted foods typically float. This allows the user to monitor the amount of food they are feeding and remove any food not consumed by the fish within a specific period of time. This helps eliminate overfeeding as well as water quality problems and diseases.s associated with this common problem. Therefore, the differences between pelleted and flake food can be summed us in a few key words: better nutrition, better value, and less water quality problems.
I’ve heard goldfish that are fed pelleted food experience swim bladder problems causing them to float upside down, is this true?
Care should be taken when using a floating food for goldfish. Floating food contains many air pockets which allow the food to float. At times these pockets don’t fill with water when put in an aquarium, causing actual air bubbles to form within the food. This can cause problems with some goldfish. To avoid the majority of these problems, we suggest you feed the appropriate pellet size for your fish. Soaking the food for a few minutes prior to feeding can also eliminate this problem should you continue to experience it.
Feed one (1) pellet of food per inch of fish two (2) times daily when the water temperature in your pond consistently stays above 70°F. Feed half of this amount when the water temperature is consistently below 70°F but above 60°F.
When the water temperature consistently stays below 50°F stop feeding your koi. Below 50°F their metabolism slows so much they go into a hibernation type mode and do not need food.
A combination of Hikari Wheat-Germ and Hikari Spirulina will prepare your koi for reproduction. Also, adults will eat the fry as a natural response, if you want to avoid all the fry being eaten, remove them from your pond until they reach 1″-3″ depending on the size of your koi and your filter system.

I’ve seen Micro Pellets in my local pet store, but the price seemed very high for the size of package, why is that?
Pelleted food by design is more compacted, providing more nutrition in the same amount of space, therefore care should be taken when comparing pricing on flake food versus pelleted food. In most cases, your best value is a pelleted food. For example, the human equivalent would be a bag of potato chips versus a bundle of carrots. Both items take up the same space but the carrots are more dense and nutritious than the potato chips. A small amount of pelleted food may have the same amount of food as a much larger amount of flake food. Additionally, pelleted foods typically allow the user to monitor the amount of food they are feeding because they float or sink rather slowly. This process allows the user to remove any food not consumed by the fish within a specific period of time. This helps eliminate overfeeding along with water quality problems and diseases.s associated with this common problem. Also, by eliminating overfeeding the food lasts longer. The differences between pelleted and flake food can be summed us in a few key words, better nutrition, better overall value and less water quality and health problems.
Each Massivore Delite pellet is approximately 3/8″ in diameter and 3/16″ thick.

What does the statement on the Bio-Pure FD Spirulina Brine Shrimp & Bio-Pure FD Krill container mean? (“For maximum success the contents should be used within 90 days of purchase”)
Any freeze dried (FD) item is hydroscopic and therefore due to its state absorbs water from the air. As this is done it causes the product to oxidize, which in extreme conditions can cause it to go bad. For this reason we include in the package an oxygen absorber and suggest using all the product within 90 days of opening to maximize freshness. Following these usage guidelines will provide the best overall product for your pets.
