Great For Use In Freshwater Or Marine Applications
- Highly porous sponge maximizes bacterial action
- Increased surface area offers maximum bacteria colonization
- Soft sponge material is easily cleaned
- Polyether foam for longer life
- Uplift tube and air diffuser combination provide maximum lift and won't easily clog
- Other uses: polishing filter for canister filter applications, hang on filter applications or uplift tubes of undergravel filters.
Available From:
- Before installation, soak the sponge block in aquarium water for at least five (5) minutes.
- To clean sponge block, always rinse with water taken from your aquarium. Do not use tap or hot faucet water as this can damage the sponge block and impact bacteriological action.
- When re-installing the sponge block, submerge in aquarium water and squeeze gently to remove all trapped air inside the microscopic pores. This allows the sponge block to operate properly.
- For optimum performance, replace the sponge block every six (6) months. Allow the new block to soak in your aquarium water for a minimum of two weeks before installation to allow it to colonize with nitrifying bacteria.
- The Bacto-Surge® Sponge Filter requires a minimum of 30 days of use to operate peak performance. Care should be taken during this time to monitor your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels as the aquarium progresses through the nitrogen cycle. ClorAm-X® can help control ammonia toxicity during this period.
A mechanical & biological filter for:
- Nano Tanks
- Smaller FW Aquariums
- Breeding Enviorments
- Fry-Holding Tanks
- Quarantine Applications
- Polishing of Marine Aquariums
- Perfect for Slow Moving Fish Like Discus
NOTE: The finer hole structure allows the Bacto-Surge® Foam Filters to provide significantly more bacterial colonization than competitive foam filters of similar size.

Precaution For Use
This product is for ornamental fish. Do not use for any other purpose. The efficiency of any activated carbon filter depends on the environment (size and number of animals, feeding amount, etc.). The time to obtain optimum performance will vary depending on the product size chosen versus the tank size and could take up to two months.
KEEP OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN
- For aquarium use only
- Please be aware that the Bio-Sponge™ may absorb some medication put in the aquarium. For optimum medication removal, use our Carbon Bio-Sponge™.
- Please remember a new Bio-Sponge™ will not have any beneficial bacteria. Pre-seeding the Bio-Sponge™ improves performance.
- We recommend replacing as needed depending on aquarium load and type of fish kept.
