Warning & Safeguards

^®Rio+ Aqua Pumps are designed to run completely submerged in water. Do not operate the pump without the main filter strainer or out of water, as it can result in permanent damage and may void your warranty. ^®Rio+ Aqua Pumps must be submerged and placed in a secure location before connecting directly into a GFCI power outlet. When using this pump to create fountains, water features, and waterfalls, the use of a filter conversion kit is recommended as a pre-filter. ^®Rio+ Aqua Pumps may be used in freshwater or saltwater environments, but not in foreign fluids, flammable liquids, or any chemical.

^®Rio+ Aqua Pump Maintenance
Routine maintenance is required to ensure the maximum performance and longevity of your ^®Rio+ Aqua Pump. Prior to any aquarium maintenance or appliance cleaning or repair, unplug all electrical aquarium devices. Do not use any type of soap or detergent to clean the ^®Rio+ Aqua Pump or parts. Remove main housing strainer to rinse off dirt and debris. Replace the impeller and/or shaft if you notice any excess signs of wear. ^®Rio+ Aqua Pump replacement parts may be sold at your local aquatic retailer, or contact the Hikari customer service team for more information on purchasing replacement parts.

To activate your 3 year warranty, download, print and mail the PDF form to the address listed, along with a copy of your receipt within 15 days of purchase. You can also activate your warranty by submiting the online form below. Customer service will contact you for additional details.

Pump Size(s)

Head pressure and distance can impact the the rate at which the warer will flow. Consider choosing the proper ^®Rio+ pump for your application by determing the desired Gallons Per Hour (GPH) based on your type of tank and the fish in your enviorment.

Additional ^®Rio+ Parts and Accessories

^®Rio+ pump replacement parts may be found at your local independent aquatic retailer. If you are having trouble finding the correct part, please contact our customer service team directly or email us at fish@hikariusa.com with the specific model and replacement pieces needed.

The magnetic impeller may need to be replaced periodically to maintain peak performance. Replace the impeller or ceramic shaft if you notice any signs of excess wear on the impeller, ceramic shaft, and/or shaft endcap. Monthly cleaning is highly recommended.

^®Rio+ Needle Wheel Impellers were designed to provide an ultra-fine bubble, which creates extra surface area and contact time in the skimmer. We use the finest materials, including a ceramic bearing embedded in the rotor for superior longevity and durability. Combine it with our specially designed intake venturi to turbocharge your skimmer. ^®Rio+ Needle Wheel Impellers can be retrofitted to operate on ^®Rio+ pump models 1000-3100.

^®Rio+ Internal Power Filters
An optional use to increase the filtering capacity is to add a filter set to the ^®Rio+ Aqua Pump. Combine the ^®Rio+ Aqua Pump with a filter Chamber for added biological action and clearer water too. For best results, use configuration D or E, as shown in the the product manual, in an aquarium that has a bed of gravel.
